First Year Life at DZH LLP:
New team members at DZH LLP generally experience the greatest learning curve of their career during the first year. Most accounting firms offer the same challenge, yet few offer the DZH LLP level of support.  Once a month we provide a day of in-house CPE (Continued Professional Education) training. Also, we will design for you a program of external professional training based on your career development plans…this will constitute up to another two weeks of your first year.

You’ll actively participate in one or more of our process teams (Marketing, Technology, Tax, Audit and Accounting, Human Resources, and Recruiting), allowing you to be directly involved in the firm decision-making processes.  This is quite unique to DZH LLP, as policy-making decisions at most other firms are dictated from the top.

During busy season (lasting about 10 weeks), you’re expected to work 55 hours weekly, which we consider fair for the profession. We’ll have lunches, social events, and other activities to break up the work week.  Since we value our employees as much as our clients, we will not put our client's needs before yours.

Regional Firms vs. the Big Four
One of the most commonly asked questions from future accounting graduates is “What is the difference between a ‘Big Four’ and a Regional Accounting Firm?”

We’ll try to answer this from the perspective of a regional firm.
• A regional firm will provide a broader base of experience, with the majority of clients being mid-size companies, closely held corporations, non-profits, trusts, and high-net-worth individuals. Larger firms will provide you with specialized learning (cash reconciliation, inventory, A/R, etc.) involving large clients, including publicly traded SEC corporations.
• DZH LLP, like most regional firms, wants to retain its employees. We invest in our employees so that they stay with our firm. Big Four firms push very hard during the first two years in a weeding-out process. Many associates at Big Four firms leave for private practice after two years.  DZH LLP associates tend to stay with our firm longer and in public accounting generally.
• DZH LLP is a casual, informal firm. Here, you can speak to partners without an appointment. Dress code is "business casual."  Fridays are informal. We are a bit more casual; national firms are, without doubt, more formal and structured.
